Old people in orbit above our heads: is there literally anything more terrifying? Old people could die at any moment from anything, so yeah, why not put them in charge of a hundred tons of metal atop a massive controlled explosion designed to throw them off the surface of the Earth?
Let’s put it this way: you know all those news stories about old people getting confused while parking their car and driving into a shopfront? Replace “car” with “space shuttle”, “parking” with “hurling through the atmosphere at escape velocity” and “shopfront” with “large segment of the eastern seaboard”. That’s probably worth another “should we ban old drivers from our streets” report on A Current Affair.
