Oscar nominations date brought forward by two weeks
Even though we are in the midst of fashion season, it is never too early for some awards season buzz!
The Academy of Motions Picture Arts and Sciences have announced that next year’s Oscar contenders will be made known on January 10, which is a full two weeks earlier than this year’s nomination announcements.
Controversially, the move to bring forward 2013’s award candidates places Oscar announcements three full days ahead of the Golden Globes ceremony, which, though not generally considered an authoritative council by the Oscars board, has previously predicted and precursed Academy Award winners.
Of shaking the 85th annual ceremony up, the organisers said publicizing candidates for their respective Best and Most awards earlier will “provide members and the public a longer period of time to see the nominated films.”
The Oscars will take place on February 24, 2013.
