As if we weren't already falling into apoplexies of excitement about Chris Lilley's latest effort, Angry Boys, he goes and releases an official "trailer" for the show.

Only Chris Lilley being Chris Lilley, it's not so much a trailer in the traditional sense as it is a seven-minute excerpt from the show.

We've already met the Dunt twins, Nathan and Daniel, and "Tiger mother" Jen Okazaki, now get ready to meet the rest of the cast:

I've already mentioned how excited I am about Nathan and Daniel returning, but based on the 'trailer', I think Nanna Sims might be my new favourite.

The other element to this is the massive relief there is in knowing that someone - i.e. the ABC and HBO - is still prepared to channel money into comedy that is brave and insightful.

It's remarkable that Australian TV comedy keeps taking the form of dead-end sketch, when it would be wholly possible to take the Lilley route and get unknown comics to create wildly hilarious and (though I hate the word) edgy comedy for far less money than I'm sure Live From Planet Earth cost.

Then again, the success of Kath & Kim didn't really lead to any other chances being taken on network television, so perhaps it's just that Aunty doesn't have to worry about advertising and ratings and can afford to take a chance.

In which case, here's to Angry Boys, and here's to the home of Australian comedy.
