If you're a fan of crazy, kooky acid-trip-style adventures, then hold on to your freakin' hats.
Dark and spooky filmmaker
Tim Burton has signed a two-picture deal with Disney, which has him remaking Lewis Carroll's classic,
Alice in Wonderland. The other film that has been negotiated is an expanded version of his 1984 short film
Frankenweenie.
Burton tells
Sci-Fi Wire
that he feels
Alice in Wonderland is "just such a classic ... The imagery is so surreal.
I don't know; I've never seen a version where I feel like they got it
all. It's a series of weird adventures, and to try to do it where it
works as a movie will be interesting...The imagery, they've never quite
nailed making it compelling as a full story. So I think it's an
interesting challenge to direct."
Apparently Burton's version (which is due for release in cinemas mid-2009) will combine performance-capture imagery (which was recently seen in
Beowulf), with live-action footage.
AND IT WILL BE IN BLOODY 3-D.
If this doesn't do the little kiddies heads in, I don't know what will.
**The image displayed here is a promotional image from Disney by photographer Annie Liebovitz, featuring Beyonce Knowles, Lyle Lovett and Oliver Platt. It has nothing to do with the film that Burton is making, but it's a pretty rad picture so we're just featuring it for shits and giggles. Cope.
