For the movie news week that was we capture both the highs and the lows in one neat little package. Enjoy!
Best: Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie to team up?
Rumours have surfaced that Johnny Depp is in talks to star alongside Angelina Jolie in the upcoming thriller The Tourist for Sony Pictures. The impossibly good looking duo have never worked together and might as well be painting a fence for two hours and people will still turn up.
The story deals with an American tourist (Depp) who is drawn into a web of mystery and intrigue by an Interpol agent (Jolie) trying to find a criminal who she once was amorous with. This is a remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer.
Depp replaces local actor Sam Worthington who was previously attached to the project. The production has been plagued with drop outs. Worthington, Charlize Theron and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (Flo to his friends) have all left due to so called “creative differences”. Supposedly Alfonso “Y tu mama tambien and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” Cuaron is in talks to take the directorial reigns. Production should start in February of next year.
This seems like a casting match made in heaven, how could it fail?
Worst: Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo in a Yogi Bear movie?
In yet another attempt from Hollywood to pillage my childhood, it seems that the one and only Yogi Bear will be getting an update. To add insult to injury JT will be providing the voice of the ever faithful sidekick Boo Boo.
Variety reports that the half live-action, half CGI production from Warner brothers would also include Dan Aykroyd as the voice of the title character and Anna Faris as a documentary filmmaker.
Have we learnt nothing from Garfield and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties?
Production kicks off in New Zealand next month.
