Die-hard Family Guy fans always remember fondly when they were initiated into the cult of Griffin. Personally, it was during the turbulent period known as the late nineties. While many people were grappling with the possible end of western civilisation thanks to the new millennium, I was going through a difficult and tempestuous breakup with The Simpsons.

The Simpsons revolutionised cartoons for generations to come and many of us still hold the halcyon days of the series close to our hearts. But by the eighth season of the show, we all felt something was rotten in the town of Springfield. I sensed the end of the relationship was near when I stopped quoting the episodes in my daily conversations and wasn’t fazed if I missed an episode.

Unfortunately as with many love affairs in their final days, I became unfaithful as my eyes began to wander in search of greener pastures. Since the phenomenal success of The Simpsons there had been numerous clones including King of the Hill and South Park to name a few, but it wasn’t the same.

Then on a fateful summer’s day I stumbled across a little known show called Family Guy. Although initially rougher around the edges than The Simpsons, I was immediately drawn to the evil mastermind of the youngest member of the family Stewie Griffin. Two episodes later and I was hooked.

Family Guy was everything The Simpsons should have become. It was edgier, funnier, nonsensical and it was full of references that felt as though they were written specifically for me. I was in love.

The years went by and the support for the show grew to the point that it was resurrected from television hell and brought back for new episodes, an unprecedented event for TV networks. Along the way I have recruited many loyal followers who have since recommended it to their friends and the army grows in strength.

To celebrate the worthy successor of The Simpsons we have compiled the funniest Family Guy moments. These clips need no introduction and speak for themselves. Enjoy!
