Rusty's Robin Hood held up
Production on Russell Crowe's upcoming Nottingham film has been postponed because of looming threats of more industry strikes.

The Ridley Scott film, which is slated to show actor Crowe playing a "sympathetic" Sheriff of Nottingham in a new take of the famous Robin Hood tale, has been put on hiatus because of several factors, including the current unrest with actors' union the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

Movie bosses at Universal Pictures cite the "cloud of the SAG strike" as one of the factors, as well as location and problems with the film's screenplay.

In a statement Universal says, "Universal could have moved forward with one of these challenges, but the confluence of the three caused the studio to reconsider and take the time for all conditions to be optimal."

The movie, which was due to start shooting this month, is now slated for a November 2009 release.

Perhaps they just noticed that a "sympathetic" Sheriff completely changes the parameters of the entire shebang? That the story of brute redistribution of wealth becomes a bit diluted when cops start getting their fingers in the pies.
