Anyone who thought the whole gangbanging-a-drunk-nineteen-year-old-girl scandal of last year had successfully derailed playful footy rogue Matty Johns’ television career must be feeling pretty embarrassed right now! Channel Seven are about to start showing The Matty Johns Show, a brand new rugby league/comedy-for-morons program.
Judging from the
“Don Kurke” sketch that Channel Seven is using to advertise the show, this is going to be Logie winning stuff.
Watching the sketch makes me feel embarrassed for everybody involved. I’m sort of used to Channel Nine continually providing television opportunities for unfunny rugby league stars, but when Channel Seven do it, it just seems kinda… sad.
As long as network television executives in Australia keeps flinging money at shit like The Matty Johns Show, this country is never going to produce a
30 Rock-esque sharply written comedy series to call our very own. And that’s a real shame.
