Moving to the US has paid off for the Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, who is reportedly in final talks with the Oscar-nominated director Tim Burton for the title role in his take on Lewis Carroll's classic fantasy novel
Alice In Wonderland.
The Hollywood Reporter says the Canberra teenager - who was nominated for the Young Actors Award at the 2006 AFIs for her supporting role in the critically acclaimed
Suburban Mayhem - is in final negotiations for a deal that will mark the end of a long search for a big-budget project.
Wasikowska got her start on the Channel Seven series
All Saints and last year appeared in the Australian films
Rogue and
September. Now a regular on the US series
In Treatment, she has already been cast in several feature films and will next appear opposite the James Bond star Daniel Craig in the war drama
Defiance. She has also just completed filming the role of a young Amelia Earhart fan in Mira Nair's biopic
Amelia, starring Hilary Swank.
Burton, is best known for his outlandish films including
Edward Scissorhands,
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and, most recently,
Sweeney Todd.
