Waaaaaay better than the calculator watch
Cynics would say that taking two fairly useful products and
smashing them together is a sure fire recipe for making money. Think
calculator watch.
But while a mobile phone
with the odd media capability is nothing to write home about, the
latest collaboration between Bang & Olufsen, and Samsung just might
be.
The
Serenata
is being marketed as a music player first and a mobile phone second. It
features an in-built hi-fi speaker system and all of the styling and
smarts we’ve come to expect from B&O. But with a reported retail
price of over two grand, most of us will have to just imagine how good
it sounds.
Trucker chic
Every now and then you come across a product that is so cool, so clever, so obvious, that it makes you want to slap yourself in the face with a severe case of “why didn’t I think of that?”
Swiss company,
Freitag’s bags are that cool. Their messenger bags are made from recycled truck tarpaulins and seatbelts. The fabrics are hand cut, then built into a range of bags and accessory products.
Apart from the obvious environmental benefit in reusing what would otherwise be destined for the scrap yard, each bag is unique depending on the tarpaulin it was cut from.
The
Freitag website allows you to design your own bag, using tarpaulins they have in stock. Recycling never looked so good.
Hayling from Melbourne
Remember those girls who skated a Powell Peralta, wore Air Jordans, and listened to Run DMC? Those girls who were so cool you couldn’t work out whether to try to kiss them or throw a stick at them? They grew up. And now they’re wearing jewellery designed by Melbourne label
Hayley Mei.
Featuring spray-can pendants, graffiti styled letter pieces, and the unbelievably cool, “state your name” pendant, Hayley Mei is quite possibly the reason they started spelling fat with a ‘ph’.
Flaiking your velocity
If you’ve ever been snowboarding, you’ve probably lied to your mates about how fast you were going.
The jig is up, buster.
Flaik is a small GPS device that continually monitors your speed, location and altitude while you’re on the slopes. The data is beamed to your personal profile on the Flaik website, and you can even download it to your phone.
Apart from the huge safety potential of a product like this, it’s another awesome way to brag to your friends about how sick you can cut jibs on a sweet kicker… or whatever the kids are saying these days.
