I heart design 9
A cardboard stool which is designed to be flat-packed and assembled by the owner, Anthony Dann's Mitzy stool is die cut and comes in two pieces with fold lines and simply strapped together without any mechanical fasteners. An entrant in the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards.
These chair forms - chair and footstool - are inspired by the Stingray marine creature and can be used for relaxing either indoors or outdoors. An entrant by John Smith in the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards.
Stefan Lie's Demicube Shelf is a modular shelving system that is made up from 5 different sized modules. They are made from MDF board and can come in a coloured laquer or veneer. An entrant in the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards.
Inspired by squashing aluminium cans, which was a fun activity as a child, the Squash Bowl is in fact made from stainless steel – it’s rippled sides paired with a simple bowl. This is Nick Rennie's entry in the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards.
The 'Billy' was developed to enhance the positive attributes of contemporary Australian tea Practice as well as enrich the process by incorporating new opportunities, taking the lead from its rural/remote counterpart, to the drinkers. This is Elliat Rich's entry in the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards.
This chair symbolises a time for conversation and a time for reflection. At “3 o’clock” it becomes and easy chair and in the “9 o’clock” stage the chair transforms into a chaise. This is Edward Wong's entry in the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards.

Marc Newson's Atmos 561 clock for Jaeger LeCoultre.
MARC NEWSON CLOCK
Marc Newson has become a bit of a household name in design lately, and for good reason. Love him or hate him, you have to admit; he’s bloody good at what he does. Little wonder then that he’s wowing the design set again with his Atmos 561 clock for Jaeger LeCoultre.

The 561 marks the 8th anniversary of the Atmos range which are powered by changes in the surrounding environment. That’s right - batteries not included.

They say that the variations in ambient temperature cause the gases in the transparent crystal case to automatically "wind" the clock. The 561 is a limited edition of 888 pieces so it might be better to save your pennies and purchase a small country instead.

POSTER ANNUAL
If you get the chance to pop down to Federation Square in Melbourne this week, make sure and take in the finalist display of the 4th Australian Poster Annual. The theme is “Strength in Numbers”, and it’s really interesting to see how different designers approach the topic.

The works on display range from the to-be-expected politically motivated preach poster, to the down-right funny and clever.

The good thing about posters as a graphic design medium is that they have to be bloody punchy to grab and hold you attention, and I’m pleased to say that all of the posters picked as finalists are worth a look.

BOMBAY SAPPHIRE DESIGN DISCOVERY EXHIBITION
While you’re out and about basking in Melbourne’s Design festivals, why not take a stroll up to the Melbourne Museum and have a peek at the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Exhibition?

The 2007 entrants are on display, and are in the running for the people’s choice award. The Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery award is the richest design award in the country, offering $30,000 in prize money and a trip to Milan for the winner. No wonder it has attracted so many talented designers. You can vote for your favourite design on the website.

DESTROY TODAY CALENDER
It’s not every day you get stopped in you tracks by a piece of good web design. Or is it every day? Either way, Jonnie Hallman, of Destroy Today has made a really nice calendar that you can download as your screen saver.

Web design is so often a shameless "look what I can do" display of a geeks' coding skills, but Hallman's work seems well considered and user friendly. Nice work, Mr Hallman.

Pomegranate Royalty Pomegranate ON 25 Jul 2008 01:54:37PM Yes I am serious. They're average. You could take any random pics from Getty and make a poster, and everyone would say "Oooow how cool", cause it's poster size.
