Beckhams musical in pipeline

A musical based on the lives of Victoria and David Beckham is in production.

The satirical play, entitled MacBecks, is set to open in January.

Long Road Productions, who are involved in the musical and have previously worked with Riverdance, say the production draws inspiration from Shakespeare.

The company's director, Ronan Smith, said: "We're very excited by the script - it's a wild comedy romp that borrows from Shakespeare's Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, as well as Cyrano de Bergerac. It will be a musical based on the world's best known soccer player."

According to reports, Victoria will be based on Lady Macbeth and be portrayed as a ruthless and ambitious woman who David sacrifices his career for.

The musical will also feature actors portraying former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the woman David allegedly had an affair with, Rebecca Loos.

The script is being penned by Gary Cooke and Malachy McKenna. The pair previously starred in another soccer spoof production, I, Keano, which depicted David's former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane and his infamous quitting of the Irish World Cup squad in 2002.

The show is due to open at Dublin's Olympia Theatre next January.

SimoneMitchell Royalty SimoneMitchell ON 07 Jul 2008 11:16:13AM Does anyone remember that incredibly scary sequel to Wizard of Oz called "Return to Oz"? There was an evil queen in it called Mombi, who kept the heads of pretty girls in jars. Victoria Beckham looks like Mombi in that photo and it's MAKIN' ME HAVE NIGHTMARES.
