Kill Pixie (aka Mark Whalen) originally cut his teeth doing graffiti around Sydney. For the last four years, he has been exhibiting his fine art internationally while operating out of his Los Angeles studio. But his original experiences on the streets lent him a strong understanding of space, scale and toughness.
Kill Pixie's paintings and installations are characterized by humanoid characters and anthropomorphic machines that act out within surreal geometric environments. Like puppets or dolls, it is as if they are part of a grander scheme acting according to hidden powers. Parallel universes are created to convey very earthly and modern messages of dominance and submission, corruption, control and resistance.
The aesthetic mixes folk art with a self consciously naive version of 1970's futuristic visions along with an under-current of unspeakable perversion.
