Public events are a funny thing. I’ve always had problems with them. Maybe it’s the way you have to stand around with random people for an extended period of time, pretending like you have something in common with them. Maybe that’s my problem; I’ve never been one to go to music festivals, in-fact, ‘I don’t do festivals’. I think it’s because to get to the good things at those types of events you need to swim through the bad things. I have a very short attention span so if the event is bad I spend most of my time people watching. Once I start doing that it’s all over and I feel like the kid who missed the punch line to the joke.
But lately I’ve been trying to get involved in the more grass roots type public events, the ones that are run by old mums and school teachers, that’s what I am about. Festivals about exotic animals or fundraisers for the local footy team always seem so hilarious to me. They are so hit and miss though that you usually leave feeling slightly robbed. But a few Sundays ago I was taken to another level in public events that I want to share with you.
The Tyabb Air Show.
This thing is off the hook, if you ever get a chance to go, I suggest you do. For the first time in a long time there was no extended period of people watching. Just eyes for the sky. There’s something about seeing 12 old fighter planes doing fly byes. This air show is so much more then just an air show. Not only did they have some old warplanes flying around, but they also had cars and motorbikes on show. Old American muscle cars to the james-bondesqe type vehicles there for you to look at. On top of this, they had all of the carnival type foods to send you straight to the hospital with no regrets. The excitement at an Air Show is amazing. You’re always on the edge of your seat cause you never know what might go down. Tyabb + Air Show sounds like such a good time and guess what? It is.
Go next year.
