Rome by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi
- A Collaboration album for a movie that doesn't exsist.
Last night on Facebook a friend posted a link to a song called “Black” by Danger Mouse (Brian Joseph Burton) and Daniele Luppi with vocals Norah Jones.
I was immediately transfixed by this haunting tune. I looked into it more and realized it was from a Collaboration album called ‘Rome’ by Italian composer Daniele Luppi and Brian Burton, with vocals across the Album by Norah Jones and Jack White.
Listening to the album in its entirety (streamed via YouTube see below for the link) you got the sense it was a score for an unnamed film. I got the feeling I was lost in the world of some forgotten Spaghetti Western film.
Inspired by Italian film scores of the 60’s and 70’s, particularly the work of Alessandro Alessandroni and Ennio Morricone (known for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West & many other films), Burton and Luppi recruited the Marc 4 band the I Cantori Moderni choir (both of which were involved in Alessandroni and Morricone’s work) using vintage analog equipment.
Recording the album at Forum Studios in Rome (the reason for the title of the album), the duo enlisted White and Jones as the strong lead ‘Actors’ to star in their unnamed film score, both of which provide distinct and powerful vocals.
An album seven years in the making; the duo have managed to capture the heart and soul of the genre with their homage, and I’m sure will be a favourite of years to come with a lot of people.
