Say hello to 72 hours of heaving bass, airports, cutting shapes, interviews, crowd surfing, finding sleep and all around,mind-blowing good times.
That’s what my itinerary should have said. Packaged in a nutshell made of subwoofers and sweat. I’m on my way back to Sydney now, having just put my body through its best weekend in 25 years.
I’m on tour with Fuzzy and TheVine, documenting my experience of Parklife 2011. From takeoff on Friday, I very quickly learnt this would be a tour like no other.
Over the last weekend I've taken an inspiring journey. Some of the special moments included sharing a cab with
Duck Sauce, dancing side of stage to
Katy B, celebrating with
Santigold on her birthday, having a few drinks with
The Streets, getting paid out by
Example, talking electronic shop with
Nero, discussing pavlova with
Kimbra and grabbing the mic to hype a crowd of 10,000 for
Digitalism.
If I've come to any conclusion regarding the artists on the line-up as a whole so far, it definitely has to be that they all love being out here in Australia. To them, we’re friendly, fun and we love their music. So it's no surprise they dig coming here so much.
So what was the best performance over the Melbourne and Perth events? It’s way too hard to say -- everything was next level sweet. I’ll definitely have
Magnetic Man’s in ya face gig in Perth tattooed -- on my face (in the style of this: :O ), for a while. With MC SGT Pokes opening the show by declaring Magnetic Man (Skream, Benga and Artwork) are “all about bad music for good people”, you knew they’d be handing out some shizzle sticks. But I don’t think anyone expected Skream and Benga to crowd surf, P-Money to make a surprise MC appearance and the boys to close the show by inviting 30+ girls on stage to party. The icing on this wobble cake had to be the guys announcing to the whole crowd the super secret location of the artists’ after party. Fail? Probably not for a few lucky people who paid attention. Move over rock and roll, dubstep just stole all your sex and drugs.
While this years line up has a unique blend of artists from all over the world, catering to all forms of electronic forte, one thing remains certain: the high quality of beats and bass. Do what you can to get there, this weekend in Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide. Unless you were already there in Melbourne or Perth, in which case you’ve probably already died and gone to heaven. Good for you. I'm going to lie down now and remain horizontal for a few days until then.
Peace. Jimmy.
