Ohhh the joy of waking up at 5am. I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemies. The warm shower that feels cold. The sleepiness doesn’t dissipate till about 12 o’clock. This is why I always hated the Camberwell market. I dated a girl who loved to go and the thought of waking early on a Sunday was sickening. But I would’ve done anything for that girl so 5am it was. One year, in an attempt to clear out my closest I decided it would be a good idea to get a market with my buddies and try to make some scratch for myself. Now I understand people love ‘vintage’ shopping but having people rummage threw my shit at 5am in the morning wearing head torches is a bit much. So I’m never going to do one of those ever again. Instead, I’ll just go to them whenever I wake up. Have a bit of a laugh and leave.
If this is all music to your ears then next time you’re in LA you need to visit the Melrose Trading Post AKA The Fairfax Swap Meet. This is like The Camberwell market on some sort of mid-nineties party drug. It has everything. My favourite vendor is the old dude who sells records; he has everything, my
Staring at The Sea record by The Cure purchased for $10 agrees with me. Located on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax every Sunday, rain or shine. This thing is amazing. It’s an awesome way to spend your Sunday in LA. The $2 entry fee goes to helping fund programs at The Fairfax High School, where the swap meet takes place.
I highly recommend a visit to this swap meet for three reasons:
1: It’s amazing
2: It really captures the LA spirit and you usually bump into some awesome people.
3: Babes
