In a case paralleling the classic Hitchcock thriller Psycho, a man in New York has been arrested for dressing up as his dead mother in order to claim thousands of dollars in benefits.
The man in question, Thomas Parkin, was found at the Brooklyn DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) in a pink jacket, blonde wig, nail polish, lipstick and dark glasses, trying to renew his mother Irene's drivers licence, despite her being dead for six years.
This raises the question: How far would you go for some extra cash? We see bizarre stories of similar creepiness appearing time and time again, and while there is an interesting point that could be made about the greed, ruthlessness and pure absurdity of some people's actions, I just can't stop looking at the images and see Norman Bates dressed as his mother, stabbing Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) in the shower. Perhaps it's the film student in me, but there is something about this that is wonderful.
Apparently Parkin said that "I held my mother when she was dying and breathed in her last breath, so I am my mother". I mean, this is heartbeats away from the "A boy's best friend is his mother" quote from the 1960 classic. I am jizzing in my pants over this. Only in America.
