I watched
Silence of the Lambs again on the weekend. The result was that my partner and I had a fight at 4am on Sunday morning because I refused to fetch a glass of water in the dark without a pair of night-vision goggles.
Anyway, that's beside the point. The bit where Hannibal Lecter states that he enjoyed eating a "liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti" got me to thinking about evil people and their favourite foods. So I jumped on the internet and had tool around. This is what I unearthed:
* It was long thought that Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian, but this rumour has been dispelled. While his diet was mostly vegetarian, it is
reported that some of his favourite treats included liver dumplings, ham and caviar. Oh, and
stuffed squab. Whatever the f*ck that is.
* I also discovered the morbidly fascinating "
Dead Man Eating" weblog. It details the last meals of every person executed in the US, and then outlines their crimes. For example, Christopher J. Newton, executed in Ohio on May 24, 2007 had a "steak, asparagus, brussel sprouts, feta cheese, a soft drink, birthday cake and a watermelon." Greedy piggy.
* Velma Barfield, the famous female arsenic killer in the States, was a fan of Cheez Doodles. In fact, that's what she requested for her last meal before she was executed. Clearly nutritional value was not a concern.
* Timothy McVeigh (he of the Oklahoma City Bombing) listed mint choc-chip icecream as his favourite food.
* Saddam Hussein's favourite food was
reportedly hamburgers and french fries. With a healthy side of IRONY.
... Sorry, that was all a little morbid and depressing, wasn't it?
Nothing like a picture of dogs dressed up as foodstuffs to lighten the mood:
