There's a bit of a trend in Hollywood at the moment.
They've taken to making my worst nightmares into movies.
For example there's the
Piranha remake (fish that eat you), M. Night Shyamalan's
Devil (aka "oh fuck, I'm stuck in the lift with Satan's spawn"),
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (aka
Garry McDonald plays a heavy-handed dentist),
Case 39 (it has Renee Zellweger in it, COVER YOUR EYES, BABIES) and
The Human Centipede, which this chap will gleefully explain for you:
Now they're bring one of my greatest personal fears to the big screen.
Buried tells the tale of Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds), a US contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group
of Iraqis he wakes to find he is
buried alive inside a coffin. With
only a lighter and a mobile phone it's a race against time to escape this
claustrophobic death trap.
When I spoke with Reynolds in New Orleans a couple of months ago (nice name drop, eh?) he said that this was by far the most difficult film he had ever made – both emotionally and physically. He is the only actor that appears on screen and the ENTIRE thing is shot in the coffin.
Early reviews on the 'net have been very, very positive. Apparently Reynolds is phenomenal and the script is tight and harrowing. According to
one blogger who has read the script "I had to loosen my collar several times to try to breath, because it was so intense".
Check out the new trailer. Utterly terrifying stuff.
