Now I know music isn't really my jurisdiction, but please indulge me for a second on this here blog. Consider this a little Friday escapism.

I would like to announce that I plan to run away and join Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I want to join their band more than I wanted Kylie Minogue to be my big sister in 1991.

If you've been anywhere near a radio tuned into Triple J lately, there's a chance you've heard the whistle-y fun that is their single 'Home'.

Here's a clip of them performing the song live for a radio show:

Sure sure. They're a bit hipster-ish and their irrepressible glee would probably get on your nerves after a couple of hours. And some of them would probably smell like the boys' school bus in the middle of summer. But my GOODNESS they look they're having fun, don't they?

I'm having trouble working out which gentleman I'd like to stand closest to when I join the band. Part of me would like to be next to the adorable trumpet player in the blue polo shirt who keeps forgetting the words. The other part of me is rather charmed by the piano player in the white singlet who seems to forget where he is and what he's meant to be doing.

Honestly. Check him out at the 1.41 mark. He looks genuinely surprised to discover he's in a studio. And again at 3.05. Brilliant.

And how delightful is the golden-haired girl on the piano accordion? I'm not sure if she can actually play the thing, but she looks just lovely.

My obsessive research on how to join this band of LA hippies lead me to an interview with the lead dude Alex Ebert. Apparently they spend much of their time touring around on a big white bus, just one big happy family. And when they're not playing gigs they're skipping around making sun-drenched film clips.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, Jade and Alex are actually a couple and they're really in love.

Aren't they just the most??
