At Jil Sander, Prada, Versace, Emilio Pucci and Gucci this season the wonders of skin that looks lit from within was beautifully illustrated. Girls sported perfectly concealed yet luminous complexions care of make-up artists applying shimmer with a heavy-hand. Generously mixed with foundation first, once the base was in place liquid highlighter was then applied a second time to brow bones, the bridges of noses, the peaks of lips and the arrows that rest in the corner of each eye. Reinforcement was then employed, with contouring and sculpting taking place just beneath the areas where luster had been cultivated.

While a creamy, flesh-coloured lipstick found it’s way to lips across the board, eyes on the other hand were treated in one of two ways. At Jil Sander and Prada the scantest amount of brown mascara was applied to the lashes, with ivory pencil to the inner rim, for a make-up look that was fresh, if barely there. While at Versace, Emilio Pucci and Gucci, 60’s style black kohl was smudged from corner to corner followed by masses of mascara that bulked-out and blackened lashes for a look that was cooler than sex kitten.

Either way skin was undeniably king here, proving that a base isn’t just a base after all - it's a feature.
