The annual Italian Film Festival closes this week, and despite the finale being Fellini’s wondrous La Dolce Vita, I thought it appropriate to recognize the new breed of Italian screen stars. In other words, name who to watch now and in the future. Carolina Crescentini received the Giuseppe De Santis award this year for being the Best Actress of 2009. She appears in The 1000-Euro Generation.

Multi-award winning actress Alba Rohrwacher – she won the David di Dontatello (the Italian version of an Oscar) this year - is considered one of the best actresses of this generation. See her in Giovanna’s Father and Riprendimi, which featured at last year’s Sundance Film Festival.

A David di Dontatello nominee in 2008, Valentina Lodovini is a veteran of both film and television. See her in The 1000-Euro Generation along side Carolina Crescentini, Fortapasc, The Past is a Foreign Land and The Right Distance.

Giulia Bevilacqua has appeared in film and television as well as music video clips. See her in this year’s Feisbum! The film.

Appearing in Feisbum! The film with Giulia Bevilacqua is Alessandro Roja. Last seen in the miniseries Crime Novel, his next project is All the Love in the World, due for release next year.

You may recognize him as the terrorist threatening James Bond, in Casino Royale, but Claudio Santamaria's career spans far beyond this one role. He is another multi-award winning actor of this generation. See him in Birdwatchers.
