Express yourself

Monday, October 06, 2008
The physical demands imposed upon Keira Knightley whilst playing Georgiana in The Duchess must have been immense. That said, the hours spent in the hair and make-up chair were worth the effort; the wig designs, hats and hoods, and velvet beauty spots she wore throughout were extraordinary - outrageous, yes, but also sumptuous. And they made me wonder; are we women, the free-thinking, free-speaking women of today, no longer using our appearance as an means of expression? Are we relying too heavily on our voice, and not enough on our ensemble, therefore not fully communicating who we are?

Best of beauty

I’ve been a make-up artist for the better part of a decade now: working in the fashion industry, on television commercials, music video clips and as a beauty advisor. I'll be taking this opportunity to comment on beauty in a conventional sense but also discuss how it can be found in the everyday and the seemingly mudane.
