Carly Simon

Wednesday, August 06, 2008
Carly Simon launched her solo career by releasing two albums in quick succession. 1971 marked the release of her eponymous album, followed by the Grammy award winning “Anticipation” in 1972. With her mix of feverish sexuality and new-wave feminist ideals, Carly was welcome respite for a generation of intelligent, forward-thinking women.

Her look was a palpable fusion of glamour and freedom - the perfect accompaniment to her musical talent. Sporting a scantly made-up face; soft, effortless waves; stovepipes; ponchos and cheesecloth kaftans, she was irresistible. Hence why it is rumored she dated everyone from Cat Stevens and Warren Beauty (whom inspired the hit “You’re So Vain”) to Kris Kristofferson and Mick Jagger.

Despite a career full of hits and highlights, our fondest thoughts of Carly Simon will always be inspired by that time when LA was still a city of angels: when the world followed the ins-and-outs of Laurel Canyon not Lindsey Lohan.

Best of beauty

I’ve been a make-up artist for the better part of a decade now: working in the fashion industry, on television commercials, music video clips and as a beauty advisor. I'll be taking this opportunity to comment on beauty in a conventional sense but also discuss how it can be found in the everyday and the seemingly mudane.
