Blushing beauty

Tuesday, July 29, 2008
Once upon a time it was customary for fair ladies anticipating the company of fine young men to pinch their cheeks. A rosy glow was just as attractive as a rosy disposition, hence why creating the allusion of good health and vitality was an important part of appearing agreeable.

Little has changed. Now, I don’t suggest you employ the pinching technique too often - broken capillaries are far from desirable – but I do advise the use of cream blush. Try Clinique’s new Blushwear Cream Stick, Stila’s ever-reliable Convertible Colour, Lancôme’s Magic Blush or MAC’s versatile Cream Colour. Apply it over your foundation or freshly moisturized skin and blend well using your fingertips. Add soft pink to the apples of your cheeks for fresh-faced appeal or for a look that spells sexy confidence, choose a warm shade of apricot or terracotta; blending it beneath your cheekbones and temples.

Best of beauty

I’ve been a make-up artist for the better part of a decade now: working in the fashion industry, on television commercials, music video clips and as a beauty advisor. I'll be taking this opportunity to comment on beauty in a conventional sense but also discuss how it can be found in the everyday and the seemingly mudane.
