Richard Nicoll
Richard Nicoll’s team chose to complement his very executive looking collection this season with sleek chignons, for which the hair had been brushed, bound tightly and secured between the nape and the crown. Now, of course there’s nothing particularly special about that, I agree, but every so often a girl was sent out with a very fine fishnet bag placed over her head, the ends of which were tied neatly in a bow beneath her chin. The bags, tinted in shades that matched the collection’s colour palette perfectly, appeared to obscure the girls’ view. Even so they didn’t seem too fazed. Perhaps more surprising is that they were able to walk the entire length of the runway without transferring their very sophisticated burgundy lip onto the netting. No small feat in my view.
Matthew Williamson
Silver made yet another appearance this season, this time at Matthew Williamson in London. Applied in a manner reminiscent of Balenciaga’s spring 2010 look, make-up artists added a futuristic twist to Williamson’s collection by blanketing the girls’ skin in foundation, contouring their cheeks and temples and bleaching their brows before swiping slivers of dark silver eye shadow above the crease of their lids. To ensure the look finished on a softer, prettier note, shimmer highlighter was added to their cheekbones, the peaks of their lips and the corners of their eyes, while their lips received a generous coating of pale pink lip-gloss.
