Hold the phone, is that make-up I see? After weeks of natural this and minimal that - a bit of token shimmer shadow, pencil eyeliner and lip stain - statement make-up has finally made an appearance. Thanks to Milan we now have some bold make-up looks (relatively speaking, that is. There’s still little sign of the larger than life make-up we were promised) with which to model on ourselves, play around and enliven our winter wardrobes with.
Giorgio Armani
At Giorgio Armani shards of cranberry and graphite eye shadow were painted on otherwise barren lids between the brows and barely-lacquered lashes. The coloured shapes peaked out from beneath fringed velvet (or was it felt?) hats to provide not only a point of interest – a simply grey would have been too pedestrian - but just the right amount of definition as well.
Dsquared2
At Dsquared2 eyes were smoldering and lips bold thanks to dark navy shadow and rich red, perfectly drawn lips. Eye shadow in shades of midnight encircled eyes before reaching beyond the outer edges to the temples and hairline in order to define lashes, deepen socket lines and elongate the shape. Coupled with a very sexy crimson mouth the look was altogether very sexy indeed.
Roberto Cavalli
At Roberto Cavalli multiple layer of gold, burgundy and copper shadow were blended together (reaching to the brow bone and well below the lower lashes) for an updated version on the smoky eye. Brows were played down as were lips (but for a slick of pale pink gloss) making the eyes even more dramatic and intense. A must-do look in my book.
