Just when you thought the number of fall 2010 shows were infinite in number, making fashion week but name, and not a very apt one at that, the future season presentations have come to an end. We’ve been focused on the Paris leg for what seems like an eternity now, but it’s time to sift through all the looks, remembering the swoon-worthy, sigh-inducing looks that were on offer in New York, London and Milan as well, and package the best ones.
While the really fabulous fashion looks were by no means as abundant in the other fashion capitals as were in Paris (in fact most were, well, just plain pedestrian - run-of-the-mill) some were definitely worth shelving your bare essentials for and employing A.S.A.P.
Lipstick in deep, dark shades
I know I’ve said this once or twice before, but the deep, dark, deftly-define lip (as seen at Missoni) is in.
If being modern is on your agenda it pays to add a rich lip pigment to your autumn/winter make-up repertoire, and top it off with gloss (as seen at Donna Karan). A gleaming mouth drenched in intense colour will make your new season look complete.
Brilliant blocks of purple and orange
You may gasp in horror, but Miu Miu has proven this combination can be beautiful, if not very chic.
Mixing vivid stripes and bold blocks of colour may indeed be a bit much for everyday, so opt for softer, paler shades instead (such as lavender and apricot); swipe them across your lips and lids (as seen at Rodarte, Chloe and Valentino) and watch how they make otherwise cold, barren skin look luminous. Of course why not apply the more brilliant shades from time to time as well? Be daring.
Pink on your lids and lips
Pink eye shadow isn’t easy to pull off; it often reads as irritated, inflamed or infected skin. But it’s worth attempting, if not perfecting, for the look made a bold statement this season.
The key is to define your eyes with liquid liner (as seen at YSL) or with touch of smoky black or plum eye shadow (as seen at Carolina Herrera), creating a buffer between your lashes and the pink shadow. Finish with a bright pink lip. Don’t be shy. It will reinforce your look and confirm pink was in fact your colour of choice.
