A masterful menagerie of references

After seeing footage of Marc Jacobs’ spring/summer 09 show where he appeared to be channeling ‘A Room with a View’ meets ‘Madeline’ at the Coconut Grove (though perhaps not; perhaps it was Little House on the Prairie meets Mary Poppins on the Trans-Siberian Rail? Anyway, I can only speculate he intended this collection to be worn by one watching a cabaret act alongside Lana Turner and Gary Cooper) I ache to wear coloured straw hats, turbans and shimmery animal prints this season.

So just how do you carry off such a look? By pairing it with a bare face, of course. Well, according to Marc that is. And what’s good for Marc is good for me. So, should you too wish to adopt this masterful menagerie of references and make them your own, cast aside your maquillage and opt for a pinch of your cheeks and a bite of your lips instead.
