It's been about three weeks since I've managed one of these posts, so a lot has happened however I'll keep to the recent news. The delay on my end has to do with a new issue of the magazine being about to drop. We're all at the point now where we just want the thing to go to the printers. But we've got a few big articles in there so keep an eye out in your local surf, skate or snow shop. In the mean time...

Heath Kirchart Retires

All around legend, Heath Kirchart, has announced that he will no longer skate demo's or video parts. He's retiring to just roll with his homies. The guy deserves a massive amount of credit for what he's done over the years... Anyone else remember 1999's Birdhouse flick, The End? Head over here to see Kirchart do his thing.

Gravis's Short Film, Dylan

Dylan Rieder has spent the last 18 months being followed by skate filmer, Greg Hunt, to create this short film. It's pretty mind blowing - both filmer and rider have incredible skills so the clip they put together is definitely worth a watch. Check it out here.

Street League - Round 1

Phoenix, Arizona saw the first ever Street League competition last weekend which saw the youngest competitor (and the last pro to sign to the tour) Nyah Huston take out the win and walk away with US$150,000. Australian Shane 'Nugget' O'Neil came out US$97,000 richer for coming second and getting bonus' for best trick and peer poll awards. This tour is going to change skateboarding. Stylewars 2010

Falls Creek hold one hell of a comp this time every year... Called Stylewars it bring the worlds best down to shred for a week on one massive obstacle. However, I would be telling a filthy lie if I didn't mention that every year, the main focus of the event is the nightly parties that go on. We've got a few galleries from the week but I reckon it's best to go over here and peep the one the above photo came from.

MTV Snow Jam 2010

MTV held its annual Snow Jam at Thredbo the other week too. This year the comp changed formats from a night time rail jam to a mid afternoon big air comp. Unfortunately the conditions made it nearly impossible to get enough speed to hit the jump but not to worry cause the real focus of this event every year is the after party. Tommo from Lifewithoutandy sent us in a tonne of photos from what looks like an amazing party. More on this here.

Police Bust In Snow Towns

The Perisher and Thredbo resorts saw some action a little over a week ago with a large number of police rolling into town on a drugs bust. The report says, “Seven men and three women aged between 19 and 31 are being questioned at Jindabyne and Cooma police stations. It follows seven simultaneous raids at various locations including a Jindabyne hotel. Ecstasy, cocaine, speed and cannabis were found during the raids.” The raids were the culmination of a 12 month operation and the haul had an alleged street value of $40,000.

A good day yesterday had everyone in good spirits for another big day of heats. However a lull late in the afternoon had heats being extended. That didn’t mean there wasn’t some excitement. Tour leader Jordy Smith went down to local Tahitian wildcard, Manoa Drollet. Things weren’t so lucky for the other Tahitian wildcard Heiarii Williams who lost to a last second 8.80 ride from Slater.
