Shepard Fairey from Posters to Paperbacks

Wednesday, May 21, 2008
There were days when you could pick up a Shepard Fairey signed, handscreened print and have change from $100.  Good change too.  You could probably buy a beer and a paperback with the change.

Sometime about six or eight months ago (and we blame Banksy) Fairey's popularity reached critital mass.  His art aint for the kids anymore.  You have to have a real job to afford to collect his pieces.  If you can get them that is.

And despite the is-he-a-sell-out-or-isn't-he debates, I reckon he can still design like a true propogandist.  And how.

His designs for Penguin are right on the money.  And his red and black symbolic language couldn't work better.

Five star!
