Aberdeen Thugs Kill All Visiting Fans

Thursday, August 28, 2008
In 2004 a cult classic video was dropped from Aberdeen, Scotland with the curious name Hum’n Bam*. Amongst other greats like Colin Kennedy, Jamie Bolland and Stu Graham, John Rattray has an all time classic part, which has just gone up on the Sidewalk site. I’ll keep you posted if they put any more up, Alex Craig and cast did an amazing job with this video and it is vital that you see it. I first met John in 1996, when he was a first year at Glasgow Uni. He had his physics and astronomy books in his hands, and swapped ‘em for a wee go on my board. We were skating the flat bars (RIP) at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. He took a couple of pushes and kickflip backside fiftied the round flat bar first try! (The flat bar was in the bottom right corner of the shot below.) I had barely ever seen that trick on round rails at the time, and he did it first go! Perfectly! In the years that have followed it has been amazing to see John’s skating progress into the stylish mastery that he is known for today. *Bam: Scottish colloquial. Means Below Average Mentality. See also ned and min. "Ah'm nae a bam, like!"
