Karl Lagerfeld doesn't come across as cuddly wuddly sort of guy. He's all coiffed hair, stiff collars, fierce jewellery and acerbic comments.
On childhood toys:
"Maybe I had one - I don't remember," he says. "I never played with
anything like toys. Nothing scares me more than people with a doll
collection. Frightening."
And, on choosing between photogrpahy and fashion:
"I would rather commit suicide than have to choose between them. What
can force me to be one? I like to be all," the designer declares. "The
different aspects make the one man."
Suicide aside, he is launching his own teddy bear for US retailer Neiman Marcus. They will be a limited edition of 2,500, and will cost something like $1500, or 750 pounds in the old money.
I wonder if there are 2,500 people in the world who want to cuddle up to Karl and have a motza to spare?
