Foul, cold and antarctic is pretty much how you could describe what's going on outside in weather land right now.

Fortunately, inside, beautiful things keep happening. For instance, whisky is poured and self-saucing chocolate puddings are baked and the best hairdresser in the country has been named at Hair Expo in Sydney.

It's Caterina Di Biase of Melbourne's Heading Out Hair salon in Fitzroy. She's won twice now, she's 41 and she started hairdressing at 16. The lady knows hair. Just try booking an appointment with her now!

Caterina did this woolly look below:

And she this spikey one:

She didn't do these, UK F.A.M.E. did, but they are just beautiful:

Biba Academy in Fitzroy also took top honours for their training academy, which is reassuring, because they've lopped my mop more than once.

This mop coming up is giving me a heart attack of haircuttish proportions. Ports 1961's resort collection was posted on WWD and the range is just the kind of understated, black-oriented thing a Melburnian needs when lounging at a resort such as the one I'm dreaming of right now.

While the simple and gamine forms grabbed me, I adored the haircut they gave their model. This bowl cut is completely making me want a new haircut right now, possibly with Caterina:

I am a massive supporter of Australian designers and homegrown labels, but I am also a supporter of a casual burnished-silver capelet over a color cafe T-shirt and a casually draped length of tulle from New York.

And a column dress that looks like heart monitor wavelengths:

Oh, and more capeness, black and whiteness and rolled up capris.

Apparently Ports designer Tia Cibani looked to the Art Nouveau legend Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife Margaret MacDonald for the range.
I can see that in the slim column-like shapes. Much like this Mackintosh chair:

A little in Margaret's work perhaps, but she was always so decorative. Fabulous, nonetheless.
