The inevitable fate of the changing of seasons creates a need for brow furrowing thoughts. Winter creates the need for big decisions that leave you standing in front of your double doors for hours on end – attempting to carefully select layer upon layer creating style and function. Yes my fashion friends of the southern hemisphere, winter wonderland is upon us. Give your furs, mitts, tights and woolly hats a big hug hello. At the same time figure out which of these feathered, woollen, and woven friends it’s time to say goodbye to. Again I’ll refer to my favourite television fashion guru Tim Gunn, make this delicate decision easier.
THROW OUT
Anything gold or silver
Metallic’s are staying in but gold and silvers are out, think coppers and steals if you must. Jewellery of course is fine; think those spandex tights, oversized handbags and headbands. Thanks goodbye.
White denim, this should have been one after the 90’s but just in case. No, no and no.
Waterproof material trench-coats. Functional yes this is true, but highly unfashionable. Combine fashion with function with a heavy cotton to keep the rain out, or buy an umbrella.
MEND/ALTER
Plain black tights need a serious revamp this season. Plain tights just won’t cut it. Find in spotlight some razzle dazzle; glitter, iron –ons, paint, tye-dye kits. Plain jeans, I’m not suggesting you destroy your old favourite basics. But any pair that has lost its luster shake it up & save money with these new diy styles. Try to acid wash with bleach to recreate this Balmain look. Easily fray or rip your knees or the whole jeans for a knock off of this hot ksubi look.
KEEP
The easy column! Heartbreak and sweat were carried out earlier on. I’ll be nice.
My first point and easy one is hold onto grey, the easy to translate shade will transcend into any trend for f/w 09.
Take grasp of anything menswear inspired for dear life. The three main winter trends (biker, structure & hippie luxe) can easily take a cool menswear turn. Oversized white shirts – yes, paper bag waisted trousers – yes, fedora – yes. Comprende? YES
Belt, Hats & Woolies. Basically anything goes as long as it’s styled, phew keep the cash in your wallet lady.
