Day 2 - Saturday
- EVERYONE is drinking in the streets for breakfast. We have our quaint breakfast of toast and muesli while someone in the apartments above pours bourbon on the awning above our heads.
- Word comes in that the wait for the shuttle to the festival site is half an hour. We start walking with thousands of other people towards the site.
- We pass one guy sitting down in the bushes with his head in his hands, surrounded by friends. "Fuckn' get up dickhead" says one.
- The walk is lined with bottles and drinking detritus. We're in the thick of it about 10 metres from the gates. The guy in front of us is crouching with his hands on the ground throwing up. He stands up, wipes his mouth, crouches, throws up. He manages to hold it in while he shows his ticket, then once inside goes again. It's about 1pm.
- Dappled Cities sound massive on the GW McLennan stage, Bluejuice are playing to a packed Mix Up stage, the sun is shining and there are people dressed as the Super Mario Brothers.
- The vegie burgers once again safely shepherd our nutritional intake through the day's events.
- There seems to be way more lining up for things this year. Spending is vigorous.
- No one seems to notice The Living End weren't meant to be here. Jane's Addiction aren't being missed by the Super Top by any stretch. Though we are perhaps missing some anticipation.
- Bez is still amazing. The other Mondays won't let him have the mic, until he wrestles it away from the female singer. "Ayyeeghghhhhavehuoughhhhnaaaaaaont". *hands in the air* This, obviously why.
- In a scene straight from The Road, we walk back to town with every other hooded zombie refugee in the mist, past an upturned shopping trolley while shuttles with their steamed windows full of people amble past towards the town.
- Somehow end up in a penthouse suite til 4am overlooking the beach talking shop with the producer from Australian Idol. Splendid.
