Splendour in the Grass - Pre-festivalFriday 24th July
Things we've seen.
- Sun. Water. Un-greyness. Surf!
- The bass player from Flaming Lips, Michael Ivens, dipping his toes in the surf and then going for a jog towards the lighthouse. Wearing orange shorts.
- EVERYONE pumping stereo's from their apartments. Mainly Hilltop Hoods, Silverchair, Jeff Buckley and "Happy Birthday". It sounds like dirt.
- Dude throwing up at 8pm in the middle of the road, checks his watch and goes back into the pub.
- Bloc Party play a secret, sold out show (as The Silent Alarms) at the Great Northern pub. Kele announces that they're going to play their first album Silent Alarm in its entirety, from start to finish. They do and it is awesome. The set closes with Kele pulling the crowd up on stage, crowdsurfing around the room, drummer Matt walking through the crowd shirtless and out the front door, bassist Gordon wedging his bass into the lights before being crowd surfed off stage and guitarist Russell being swamped and grimly hanging onto his guitar. Smiles all round. Review and photos coming soon.
- Finally being shuffled into some bar at 12am after seeming like it's a bad scene to find out it's...a bad, fire hazard scene. Jager.
- Byron locals preying on tourists buying sausage rolls at 1am, asking them for $2.70 to buy a pizza roll. Like us.
