Michael Jackson's run of UK concerts in July - the ones where he's hoping to ride on elephants leading a band of 100 Masai warriors - have hit a snag.
As we
discussed already, it's not so much that Michael Jackson is attempting to perform a string of 50 shows to curtain call his career, but how:
A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "He hopes to make it the most spectacular show ever. For the jungle section, he wants to ride out on an African elephant with panthers led on gold chains. Parrots and other birds will fly behind him. If it goes to plan it will look incredible."
God yes it will. Though according to today's
reports, Jackson is struggling to keep his word.
The opening night at the 02 Arena had been set for July 8 but will be moved back to July 13, promoters said. In addition, shows scheduled for July 10, July 12 and July 14 will instead be held in March next year.
This sucks. Imagine getting tickets to the opening night of Michael Jackson's comeback performance, only to find that your tickets are now to his 43rd comeback performance. It's not quite the same is it? "Stop crying your cheap tears Jackson, you CAN believe it. Just like you did for the forty two performances before tonight". (It's like Channel 10's advertising for whatever "crime" show is coming up next. I'm sorry, but yes by now we probably will believe who's partner has bitten off more than they can chew, thanks. *Yawn*)
The subtext to Jackson's announcement is that perhaps his 50 year old body isn't quite up to this string of performances that would make a young Rudolph Nureyev clasp an oxygen mask to his face.
Not a problem it seems for the young men and women who auditioned to be his backup dancers on the run of shows. The following eight minute clip shows the entire process - as well as the smoking hot winners - in an editing job that would make Fremantle Media flush with disdain. "But...but they showed the whole payoff before the ad break!?" Pricks.
