Sometimes in the music news biz it's disappointing to be on the other side of the Pacific. You get up early in the morning to find someone somewhere has already released all the international news that fits.
So it is today after the launch of the new
Where The Wild Things Are trailer. But
those jerks missed something. Where film/book/Maurice Sendak nerds are analysing the pacing, special effects and costumes, the music nerd is thinking "Holy Shit! That's an Arcade Fire track, and if I'm very much not mistaken
*does the quick calculus/adjusts cardigan* that's a
re-recorded version of 'Wake Up' from the bands seminal debut
Funeral. I wonder if anyone's ripped it/had Justice remix it yet?"
Arcade Fire have been spare with licensing their cinematically inclined music to the film world. After being linked with Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly's upcoming movie
The Box, the band at first denied they were involved in the soundtrack, before backtracking and saying they were
indeed working with Kelly. A few months back
Neon Bible closer 'My Body Is A Cage' was heard on the trailer for
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, (even though it's already been matched with Sergio Leone for
one of the best fan made videos ever), as well as creating the incidental music for their own film
Miroir Noir. Oh and they lent a track to the Red Charity TV campaign also.
'Wake Up' fits well with the new trailer. Though I can't help but watch it and think I'm in the Dandenong Ranges (where it was filmed in Victoria), waiting for scones, wondering if all that stringy bark hanging over the road ever drops and being slightly terrified of how many spiders I must be surrounded by.
Like with
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the Arcade Fire song will not actually feature in the movie. And you can see a bunch of brand new pics from the much anticipated film
right this way.
