Over a decade ago the wheels were churning for a flamboyant New York tomboy, who had a knack for standing out in the crowd in a sea of uniformed sheep. That artist/homegirl went by the name of
Vashtie Kola, and her vision finally saw the light of day with her label
Violette New York, which hit the streets back in 2008. Fast forward two years and the NY ‘It’ Girl has busted moves from party promoter to music video director, taking over every form of media with her clashing styles of hip hop, rock, goth, vintage and beyond. It’s this melting pot of flavours that has seen her brand go from strength to strength - where others have failed to take risks and step out side their comfort zones.
Her new collection entitled
“Ghetto Goth” lives up to its name with a palette of stark black and white designs, melding the two contradictory lifestyles to form an amazing marriage of cutting edge fashion. Not content with dipping just the ladies, Violette New York make sure the fellas cop some action, so there’ll be no fighting at home over who gets to rock the rose tee!
Keeping her line as simple as possible seems to be the right move for Vashtie, who steers clear of the cut and sew madness, staying loyal to her basic cut tees and singlets. With an added touch coming courtesy of a collaboration with streetwear darlings
Dee & Ricky, Violette New York produce a limited run of lego cross broaches which will only be available from the site. Cop the whole collection at the
Violette New York site today!
