“An acrid waft
emerges
from piles
of rotting
Wall Street corpses…”
… And so Reiss Radvanyi’s AW10 collection sets itself up as the antithesis of a consumer driven, white picket fence society. Unfettered by the saccharine conventions and formalities that make up a civilization, Radvanyi takes enigma to the dark side, and turns up a haunting spirit; a woman that floats in shadow, silent, brooding and so sexy you can barely bring yourself to look at her. With an ‘I don’t give a fuck about your rules’ attitude, this girl is all balls and no bullshit. She’s charismatic and dangerous, and her haphazard, thrown together look is as unfashionable as it is fashionable; she doesn’t follow frivolous trends yet somehow she exudes an easy cool that so organic can’t be bought by salacious wannabes and teenyboppers. For the coming winter Radvanyi’s woman is all about lose knits, drapery and a pastiche of satanic imagery. I talked to Reiss Radvanyi about the mysterious creature he has created, and where she’ll be lurking as the weather turns to chill…
What is your new collection about?
It is about providing the best clothing I can make, within my own limitations.
How is it different from what you've done before?
I want to make garments that people can hold onto for more than a season. When I shot the images for 2010 we used garments from the previous collection in new ways to help show this.
How does living in Melbourne affect the way you design?
I love living in Melbourne. It is great for inspiration.
What inspires you?
Everything but nothing. My friends.
What would you be doing if you weren't designing?
I would have to be expressing myself in something else creatively.
What are your plans for the future?
Continue to work with more interesting fabrications and techniques. I hope to push my design process forward.
Where can we purchase your AW10 collection?
Definitely at Fat 4 in Melbourne (Brunswick St, GPO, Chadstone and Chapel St) and keep an eye out at Wasteland in Perth, Dobry Den and Tuchuzy in Sydney, Fallow and Violent Green in Brisbane and No Name Lane on the Gold Coast.
