Jessie Evans at Durrr

Saturday, September 06, 2008
This week London club Durrr welcomed the intense energy of Jessie Evans to its stage. The Berlin based saxophonist danced her way through the crowd, her shimmy, shake and sultry voice cutting through the sweaty, heady atmosphere. The cabaret influenced show was a perfect mix of pop, electro and afrobeat, and complementing the music was Evans’ and Californian drummer Toby Dammit’s banging style. Evoking a sense of eras gone by with their Chaplainesque attire, the duo created a wonderful aesthetic. And despite the domination of sequins and lycra, what really caught my eye were Evans’ tasseled arms. Can I have, please?
