It's back to the future with Bernard Chandran

Tuesday, September 23, 2008
Stomping down the runway at Bernard Chandran’s London Fashion Week show was a host of futuristic space girls. The parade began slowly, but as it progressed evolved before the audiences eyes, and I could literally see humanity evolving into the fashion future. Some of the outfits looked as if they had stepped straight off the London streets and onto the catwalk, giving the collection a contemporary feel, but the futurism failed to pack the punch that would otherwise be expected from the theme.

The silhouettes were not sharp enough as the corners of angled, box like garments sagged when the models walked. Most of the clothes were fitted poorly, especially a silver pair of peg trousers, which are oh so hot right now, that gave the model a camel toe, the trans-seasonal fashion faux pas. The collection also felt like a re-hash of seasons gone by, as the visors reminded me of runways and fashion spreads circa 2003.

Nonetheless, the show was entertaining, and despite my cynicism there were a few pieces that stood out as wardrobe must haves, namely the hot pink and blue pointy hipped dresses.
