CATWALK NAILS AND BEAUTY.
133 Burwood Rd.

Wax yourself silly here. Why would you pay up to $65 to have your veejay waxed?
Brazillians are only $28 at Catwalk. The ladies are super speedy and will smile knowingly when you clench your teeth and snap your legs together like a clam. They will even blow the hot wax to cool it down for you.
A full set of acrylic nails will set you back $30. They do that fancy airbrush artwork too, choose from a bazillion different designs. They stock
OPI nail polishes and
DERMALOGICA products.
GOOD LUCK BUTCHERY.

So it would be easy to dismiss a butcher called Good Luck and being a nice way of saying “Good luck with the food poisoning” but these friendly folk know their cuts of meat. Lamb Roasts remain $6.49/kilo and chicken breast only $9.99/kg (Woolies in the Plaza comparatively was $13.99). What I love about Good Luck is that the shop is still fitted out with retro 70’s orange laminate and huge olde skoole shelving. BBQ Radness.

As an ex-vegetarian and currently fruit lover, Fruitworld is a glorious place. Out the front are pre-packaged (in those handy string bag thingys) bundles of the worlds most popular veges, zucchinis (not in bikinis but $3.50 for 6), corn (4 for $2.50), string beans ($2.50/kg), snow peas and red capsicums. Inside you can knock yourself out with 20 kilo sacks of spuds, trays of mangoes ($22) and a the cheapest milk this side of Dairy Farmers (2L Shape is $4.39, ripping 60c of Woolies price of $4.99). Being this close to Flemington Markets has it advantages.
Admittedly not quite as mindboggling as FRUITWORLD on Liverpool Road in (tr)Ashfield, but still good green fun.
THE NORTHERN ORIENT RESTAURANT.

You’ve gotta love a place that displays “drunken chicken” next to the wakame seaweed. There are over 278 items on the menu and before your bum hits the seat youre green tea and little taster plate of the cold salads are on your table. There are the obligatory photos of each dish on the front window and thankfully the numbers are all you need when ordering (unless of course you speak Cantonese). A favourite here is Buddha’s Vegetarian Special and the hotpots (each table is decked out with Gas burning device thingy so you can keep your hotpot, um, hot!).
There are a bazillion restaurants along this strip. THE DUMPLING KING is great if all you want is dumplings and SEA BAY HANDMADE NOODLES also has an outlet here, if the waiting at the Haymarket nook gets too much.

You can’t go past this
Vinnies. They have recently done a refit on practically all of their clothing stores and as a result the place is even more choc-a-block full of second-hand (dare I say “vintage”?) goodness. Many years of fine fashion finds have been had here and some nifty one off furniture pieces for next to nix. They are even open Sundays from 10am – 4pm.
All this can be found just ten minutes on a fast train from Sydney's Central station.
