505 Games has announced it is developing a game based on the original high school musical, Grease. The UK-based developer will be working in collaboration with Paramount to produce the games for the Nintendo Wii and DS consoles.

The Grease video game will allow players to sing and dance alongside Danny, Sandy, The Pink Ladies and the T-Birds just like they were transported back to the 50s – the era of fast cars, (some) fast women, and when 30-somethings still went to high school.

The game will take advantage of the Wii’s motion-sensing controls and microphone, while the DS version will use the touch screen. 505 Games promise “exciting gameplay for casual and family gamers eager to experience Grease in a new medium”.

“We are really excited about working with Paramount Digital Entertainment to turn this world famous film into a video game for the very first time,” enthuses Ian Howe, managing director of 505 Games. “Working with such a well known and much loved brand is a great opportunity and we believe the collaboration further strengthens 505 Games’ entertainment portfolio.”

John Kavanagh, Senior Vice President of Video Games for Paramount Digital Entertainment, added that “Grease is the ideal opportunity to reach a broad gaming audience who love to sing, dance and have fun with a party-style game.”

Gamesmaster has got chills, and they’re multiplyin’. And I will definitely lose control if there’s ever a game based on Michelle Pfeiffer’s Grease 2.
