Get a Life with PS3

Friday, September 19, 2008
Sony has launched a worldwide news, weather and online information service for PlayStation 3 users.

Called Life with PlayStation, the service uses a striking world map interface similar to the Wii's News and Weather Channel. As users explore the globe they can choose content like news headlines from Google, weather details provided by The Weather Channel, cloud imagery and live camera images from over 50 cities.

Sony says much more information will be available through the online service in future.

PS3 users can access Life with PlayStation by updating the Folding@home icon on the network column of the Cross Media Bar.

The Life with PlayStation update supports a more advanced simulation of protein folding for Stanford University's Folding@home project, and also a new worldwide ranking system enabling users to compare their contribution to one of the world's largest distributed computing projects, which should help to better understand diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and cancer.

Sony is also expected to launch an open beta test for its PlayStation Home online world within weeks.
