Every girl has their favourite football player, no matter what team they are from. Ok well maybe that last part is not true. But every girl does have a favourite footballer, whatever her age is.
I remember when I was 10 years old, sitting on the lounge with my mum, who is a devoted AFL supporter, to be more specific, a devoted Sydney Swans Supporter. We were watching the Swans play, and Mum was speaking about her favourite player. I asked her how she chose that player, and she simply replied, as if it was just common sense "Darling, you just fall in love with one as they are playing. Watch the game, and see which one melts your heart". Not long after, a handsome young player, number 17, made an amazing mark, really exposing his well formed bisceps, and tanned......ok I'm getting carried away but you get what I mean.
Since that 'life changing' moment, number 17, Tadhg Kennelly has stuck to my heart to this day. But this doesn't just happen to me. At every footbal game, you see those screaming women, with badges of particularly handsome men all over their body, and large, not very artistic, signs exclaiming names of players. It's like a contageous disease, like the flu. It speads quickly.
Not that this is all good news. There are some people who are not priviledged like the rest of women in society. Some people who don't love one player. Someone like my sister, who has loves EVERY player on the team. Not good. Not good at all.
If this experience has never occured to you, there is something wrong with you. Seriously. Having a favourite footballer is a necessary duty of life. All I can say is watch that game, and the player will come to you. And stick to you.
