When I was little, candy was just a delicious treat that the fairies would leave for me in the castles I would make for them out of blocks. I was way cute.
Then, a few years ago I watched that film Candy with Heath Ledger, which tore me apart. Saddest movie ever, totally turned me off using the word 'candy' to describe even the sweetest of treats.
Now, after some much need space, the word candy has been given new life in the form of a transversal style magazine.
From Electric Youth! founder Luis Venegas comes Candy, a transversal style magazine that celebrates transexuality, cross dressing and androgyny.
According to Venegas, "the transversal world has looked to
fashion magazines for inspiration for decades, but a fashion magazine
has never returned the compliment (by) examining the transversal world in
all it’s diversity. Personally I
subscribe to the dictum: 'Ask not what magazines can do for you, ask
what you can do for magazines'."
Awesome.
But it hasn't been Venegas all on his lonesome, a rather lofty list of contributors were involved in the premier issue, from Bruce Webber, David Armstrong, and Terry Richardson behind the lens, to Kim Ann Foxman, Christian Lacroix, Rodarte, a crossdressing Cole Mohr and covergirl Luke Worrall, in front of it.
If you’re looking for girls who are boys, who like boys to be girls, who do boys like they’re girls, and girls like they’re boys – then you’ve come to the right place.
Issue 1 of Candy is a limited edition with only 1000 copies available.
