Arctic Monkeys Head To Joshua Tree

Friday, August 29, 2008
Sheffield's poet laureates Arctic Monkeys are stepping right out of their comfort zone for their third album.

Josh Homme has revealed to BBC 6 Music that he'll be taking the reins for the Sheffield band's next album, at the same studio he recorded the Desert Sessions in.
"Being Arctic Monkeys, the polar opposite would be Desert Monkeys, so they're gonna come out and just experience that, and their idea is to submerge themselves in something else and do some tracks."

"That's the sort of pressure-free 'Let's do something cool' environment that really pays musical dividends at the end y'know? They're a talented bunch of guys, it's gonna be a lot of fun."

"We're all into Queens of the Stone Age,"
drummer Matt Helder told the NME in a recent interview. "When we got to play with them and see them live it gave us a kick up the arse ... They show you can still have top tunes and loud, heavy songs, too. It's a lot more fun playing loud music - simple as that."
An odd turn perhaps for a band known for their precise evocations of Northern life, but Alex Turner seems to have a Midas touch these days.
